General info

Hoping everyone is staying well in spite of all the hardships we are facing.

Following on the recent announcement that RPI will move to distance learning for the remainder of the semester, we will also be continuing Advanced Digital Imaging entirely as remotely for the rest of the semester.  This should be a pretty easy transition, but I want to highlight a couple of things to keep us running smoothly:

• VIDEO CONFERENCING:

I have tested a variety of meeting software and, although not ideal by a long shot, I will be sending you a link to our class Webex meeting for next week Tuesday March 24 at 6pm est and a few updates to our syllabus tomorrow.

• YOUR INFO PLEASE:

In the meantime, please let me know where you are (for any time zone issues), your situation, and your mobile number.

• YOUR BASE:

Please get your base together now for next week: a good calm space or room, your desk surrounded by some of the things you find joyful, good WiFi or Ethernet connection, headphone with mic. In essence, a place to work well from.

• SCHEDULE:

My feeling is that we will stay on track as much as possible by meeting at our regularly scheduled class time Tuesdays/ Thursdays  6-7:50 unless we can all agree on another time that works for all. The Institute wants us to meet during the regular class times as much as possible.

• PRODUCTION MILESTONES:

We will meet together individually for a review and for setting a solid plan for completion of your final projects.

• UPLOAD WORK:

We can upload our work to Box and then we can group video chat /comment using the Rensselaer- supported Webex software. I used it today in a meeting and it was ok. We an try it and see how it goes.

• EXHIBITION:

Again, pease let me know if you have any creative ideas for our upcoming exhibition.

Maybe Ian can exhibit the work in the online virtual gallery, as last semester. But perhaps we can add a Virtual Vertical Gallery and a virtual Corridor   of Creativity. Just an idea. Let me know if you have others.

• ONLINE TIPS:

Expect technical issues and plan accordingly. Show up to our virtual  class about 10 mins early to ensure your tech is working well.

• EYES ON EMAIL: Please keep an eye on your email as that is our primary mode for communication and announcements.

• FLEXIBILITY: We will try to stay as flexible as we work to complete our goals for the semester.

•  BLOCKAGES: Please let me know if you have, acquire, or anticipate any blockages.

I know these are challenging times and we will look back on 2020 as a very unique time - that despite all the difficulties we faced-we rose up to meet them - and excelled!

We have a number of students graduating this semester and we think about all you must be feeling about the unusual circumstances due to the Covid-19. We have a number of younger students who may be living on campus and may be facing displacement. Our hearts go out to all of you who face not only the normal intense  challenges of being a student in today’s world, but also now being displaced, or even ill.

Please stay well and stay in communication with me as to any circumstances or logistics you anticipate, or are currently facing.

I am so proud of each one of you and the challenges you have met and your achievements in what you are doing in ADI🌷

Deep thanks and let us stay strong. The 🌎🌏🌍 needs us!

Sincerely,

Professor Ruiz
