VCC:
http://dotcio.rpi.edu/services/printing/plotting-rcs-public-plotters
and http://helpdesk.rpi.edu/update.do?catcenterkey=16
Helpful info: The plotter paper is 36 inches wide, but the actual content space is
34 inches. So your document could be 36 wide, but have an inch of whitespace
on either side.
For
height, I would recommend the same amount of padding there. If your work is
vertical, you can of course rotate it to fit into this space for the lowest
cost. You can print much longer if you desire as the plotter has continuous
paper up to 72 inches long, with a minimum paper height of 11 inches.
You can print .jpg or .png files
but for more failsafe measures you should make a PDF in Photoshop or you can use
Illustrator: create a document 36" by height + 2", then use
File->Place to insert your document. You can then do "Save As"
and switch the file type to PDF.
You can configure your computer to have the HP 1055CM plotter drivers
properly installed.
Please see
tips for successful plotting:
http://dotcio.rpi.edu/services/printing/plotting-rcs-public-plotters/tips-successful-plotting
Or
take the
PDF file to the VCC and open it in Acrobat Reader. Switch the printer to vcplt or vcp7100g for glossy at a little extra charge.
The checkboxes are:
"Automatically
select paper size"
"Allow
use of custom sizes"
Select
both of those and the rulers in the preview should update to be your
document's size. Then you should be able to send it.
The
printout shows up in the racks on the right side of the VCC building, near
the glass-enclosed classroom. In general, they will put obviously bad
printouts up without saying anything, but you can get a refund if there was a
problem on their end by going to the help desk.
You
should cut your work carefully so it doesn't have the little label that they
print on it. There is a cutting board in West Hall Studio 214 or use a
T-square and a sharp exacto knife on one of the
cutting boards, but at all times please be mindful and use care. If you need
assistance, simply ask.
