Artist Statement

Our goal is to create an interactive auditory and visual environment where visitors create sound and visual input which determines the feel of the environment around them. Visitors enter the environment and put on a set of head phones. They then walk around the space, making noises of different types, and those noises will be input to a computer program called MaxMSP, outputting a very interesting and colorful set of sounds.

Different types of sounds will provoke different responses from the environment. For example, low tones like moans and growls will output different sounds then whistling noises and screams.

Along with this sound output, there will also be a visual display by means of a digital video camera set up in the space. Visitors will stand/sit in front of a camera and make some noises. There image will be processed by the computer and output through the projector onto the wall. The input of sound will also affect the visuals displayed on the walls, utilizing a MaxMSP sound/video add-on called “Jitter.”

Different sounds will affect the look of projected images, and the more sounds made, the more the images will be affected. The feed will occur nearly in real time, so there will be no waiting from the point of input to the actual display and output of the sounds and visuals.

Visuals will be a combination of pre-made digital imagery, and the images created by the DV camera. Both will be combined to create a tripped out hallucinogenic light show of immense psychedelic proportions.
