David Bauer Artist Statement The goal of this project is to create a Myst-like game environment based upon the real life mythology of the lost Mayan city of Eldorado. The legend is that there is a lost Mayan city which the spaniards call Eldorado, and it contains the gold that many explorers in the past have searched for but never found. I was inspired to this subject matter while watching a Discovery channel television special about discovered Mayan cities. The narrator traveled to a select few of these cities in the Yucatan. Most of the program revolved around the near impossible paths to these cities. As I watched the program I thought that this topic would be suitable for a final project because I could make it possible for anyone (with internet access) to be able to explore the Yucatan for themselves and to find the lost Mayan city of Eldorado. The architecture in my world are modeled closely (but not precise) after actual Mayan structures and temples. The textures I used come from these structures and the rainforest itself even. The sounds are bird calls from the Yucatan, as is the thunder. References include, but are not limited to: McNelly, Nancy.
