I have been playing computer and console games for as long as I can remember. From the 4 colors of the old computer games I used to play, to the 256 colors of my Super Nintendo, to the millions of colors of today’s high-end video game machines and computers, electronic games have come a long way in the past 20 years. In the past, for a game to be popular, it had to have great game play, since graphics were flat, and at best cartoonish, but today, games are rendered in 3d and at times they come stunningly close to reality.

One of my favorite games from when I was a kid is Arkanoid. This game involved bouncing a ball off a paddle towards the top of the screen to break the bricks there. Once all the bricks were broken you went to the next level. In the arcade the paddle was controlled by a small dial which you spun to move the paddle left and right. Even though the concept and graphics of this game were simple, it amused me, and countless other kids for hours on end.

My project is an attempt to recreate this classic game in the 3d realm. I have used models and textures very similar to the ones in the actual arcade game and have actually taken sound samples from the real arcade game to make the experience more authentic. I have tried to implement all of the aspects of the game that I could, within the limits of what Cosmo Worlds and the Cosmo player can do, and I think that while the game is not exactly like the original, it is close enough to make the experience both enjoyable and addictive.
