Through The Eyes of a Child

In "Through The Eyes of a Child," I am portraying what a Lego World would be like through the eyes of a young person who is thoroughly engrossed with their Lego toys. I am sure that, when we were children, most of us, at one point or another, played with Legos; and if you did not, then I am sure that you know someone who did. When I laid out all of the Legos that I had on the carpet and began to build with them, I imagined settings and worlds and storylines for all of my different Lego people and models. It was a time to be creative, think, and let your mind run free for hours and hours at a time. "Through The Eyes of a Child" will convey what some of my imaginary worlds and storylines were over 10 years ago.

I felt that the best way to represent this work is to have the setting for it be an interactive Lego factory where one can take their own tour, and experience firsthand how Lego pieces are created and how different machines, models, and creatures are built. Every piece of architecture and furniture is based on a Lego assembly. As the viewer, you are not the only person in this building, because there are other Lego people doing whatever job it is that they do and interacting with each other in the background. Also included is everything from a design room to a playground. It is my hope that, when a person walks away from this experience, a little part of their childhood follows and is remembered.
