The goal of my project is to immerse
the viewer in a virtual Star Wars world, an epic as powerful as Homers Illiad. The
success of the trilogy can be attributed to George Lucas' ability to capture an audience
with graphic effects that were unrivaled in their time (1980) and an epic symphonic
soundtrack that was catered to the events of the movie. An immersive Star Wars world needs
to have the same effect on the audience and this can only be accomplished with a dynamic
soundtrack (John Williams, composer) that fits the plot to create a mood. A good place to
start this world is in the cloud city on the planet Bespin (Star Wars : Empire Strikes
Back). The cloud city is a finite environment because it is in the sky and it provides a
unique opportunity to give the audience a "wow" factor with contemporary Star
Wars technology and majestic cloudscapes. I am counting on the audience to experience
nostalgia. Many of us were young kids when we saw Star Wars, and we had imagination, so it
will still have a place in our heart. Although a VRML world may not convey the same
amount, it can at least let the viewer experience a larger chunk of the scene than was
afforded by the movie.
