The class of 2010, led by Teddy Tablante, is actively
seeking ways to have more art on campus. This would
contribute to a more enriching and aesthetic experience for
students, visitors, faculty and staff. To this end Teddy
met with the students in Professor K. Ruiz’s Intermediate
Digital Imaging Class Feb 15 to discuss ideas and get
volunteers to work on a proposed mural in the Commons
dining area on the campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute. There were numerous volunteers who will work on
the mural under the direction of Professor Ruiz and student
J. Elyse Holladay. There are two students in addition to
those in IDI who will also contribute: one from
Architecture and a senior EMAC student.
The class of 2010, led by Teddy Tablante, along with
students from Intermediate Digital Imaging are creating a
20x8 foot mural to be displayed in the Commons downstairs
lobby. This mural is intended to display campus in a way
many students do not see: as a whole. Many students spend
their entire college life only working in a few buildings,
never realizing the rich history and era that every
building represents. From the Union to West to the MRC and
even the new EMPAC building, the mural will show RPI's
buildings not only as buildings, but exploding with their
contents. Through drawings, photomontage, computer
generated renderings, and paintings, the work being done on
campus will be related to its physical location, and bring
a greater understanding of our diverse campus. We hope to
contribute to a more enriching and aesthetic experience for
students, visitors, faculty and staff.
