Artist Statement:
VRMLusions is an experimental piece trying to test one's perception of the world around them. It will explore optical illusions and visual assumptions that humans make unconsciously. It will trick the human eye and brain so that it is difficult to pinpoint or distinguish truth from fiction in VRML. |
Take a moment to look around you. Tilt your head.
Does the world tilt? NO. Shut one eye. Do you lose depth perception?
NO. When looking at these illusions, you may consciously know that you
are being fooled, it does not stop the illusion from happening. Scientists
only recently started to understanding vision and perception. Artists
try to understand how we see the world around us. We can learn a
great deal from how artists manipulate images. Artists create illusions--it's
their business. People have experimented with the ways we see things and
often create new illusions by either eliminating visual cues or deliberately
setting up scenes in such a way that the illusion is created.
