Tie to the Real World
Activating Play will use GPS technology in cell phones in order to link players to the game world when they are away from it.

GPS units in Players cell phones will alert them when they are walking by or in certain "hot spots". These hot spots will:

  • Unlock new puzzles for the player to solve
  • Give the player a clue to a current puzzle
  • Allow players to participate in the game even while away from their computers
  • Player Rewards for Solving "Real World" Puzzles include:

  • discounts at stores
  • free wireless access for a month at a Internet café
  • 10 free text messages
  • Communicating to Players through:

  • Text Messaging
  • Prerecorded Cell Phone Messages
  • E-mail
  • Internet Websites
  • AOL Instant Messenger "bot" messages - Similar to smarter child
  • The Game will have corporate tie ins to businesses. Leading to, for example….

    1. The player walks past Electronics Boutique, when their phone receives a text message "a new puzzle has been unlocked!"
    2. The player goes home to their computer, where they can go to the "game city" and solve the puzzle
    3. As a reward the player receives 20% off of their next purchase at Electronics Boutique

The game will have lots of different locations to place mini-games, every block of the city could have a handful of games. We will talk to different gaming companies, (EA Games, Bioware) about hosting demos or shortened versions of popular games *inside of* Activating Play. We can rent out virtual real estate to the highest bidder and the best games allowing for ever changing elements of Activating Play.

Ernest Adams Design Philosophy Applied to Activating Play
Physical - Activating Play expands the physical space into the real world, giving the game a real depth and complexity that is not routinely encountered in video games
Economic - The economic space of Activating Play is in part an optional one. Mini games do not have to be completed in order to "beat" the game, but real world mini games do often reward the player in a "real" economic sense.
